Spain weekend weather forecast: November 7-10
A weekend of uncertainty ahead with rain likely along the Mediterranean coast of Spain
Active weather alerts on Thursday November 7
After the devastating effects of the Isolated Depression at High Levels (DANA), Spain is experiencing a brief respite in the weather. However, meteorologists warn that rain will return to the Mediterranean region from Wednesday onwards, although it is expected to be light.
During the first half of the week, much of the country was under the influence of the remnants of tropical storm Patty. The showers spread to parts of Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community, accumulating between 10-20mm of water, so nothing compared to the same period the week before.
However, as we approach the weekend, the rain is expected to intensify and several regions are once again on alert for storms.
Thursday November 7
While the skies will be largely cloudy, most of Spain can look forward to settled weather on Thursday. However, heavy showers and possible stormy intervals are likely in Huesca and the north-east and south of Catalonia, with persistent and widespread rain forecast in Mallorca and Menorca.
Intervals of strong easterly winds will hit the Strait of Gibraltar with very strong gusts.
Daytime temperatures will tend to fall into the low 20s, but it will still be mild for this time of year.
An orange weather alert for storms will remain active in the Balearic Islands until 3pm, while Andalucía, Catalonia and the Valencian Community have been issued with yellow warnings.
Friday November 8
Friday will see light showers continue in large areas of the Mediterranean, with an Atlantic front bringing increased cloudiness and rain in through the west of the country.
Temperatures will rise sharply in the Canary Islands, with values above normal for this time of year. Daytime temperatures will fall in western Spain but the mercury should start to climb in the southeast and the Balearic Islands.
Parts of Andalucía remain on alert for strong easterly and northerly gusts and the yellow rain warning in Catalonia will remain in place until mid-morning.
Saturday November 9
Although the front is expected to cross mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands on Saturday, all of the weather warnings have thankfully been lifted. Even so, most of the country can expect some rain, with heavier intervals forecast in Cantabria, the Pyrenees and the north-east of the Balearics.
As the worst of the storms clear up, daytime temperatures should begin to rise along the entire Mediterranean coast, although the thermometers will drop in the rest of the country.
Sunday November 10
For Sunday, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) expects the showers to spread towards southern Spain, affecting the provinces of Malaga, Granada, Almeria and Murcia. Storms are also a distinct possibility, but the precise path of the weather front is still very uncertain.
What we do know is that daytime temperatures will fall across the board, dropping below the 20-degree-mark in many regions.
A weekend of uncertainty
Meteorologists stress the uncertainty surrounding the forecasts for the coming days. Atmospheric developments at high levels are highly variable, making it difficult to accurately predict the intensity and distribution of rainfall. Small fluctuations in atmospheric patterns could translate into significant variations in the amount of rainfall. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to follow the weather forecast updates to stay informed about the evolution of the situation.
