Ryanair expands Málaga Airport routes amid criticism of Aena fees
The airline is adding five new destinations for summer 2025, even as it clashes with Spain’s airport operator over charges
Ryanair is set to enhance its summer 2025 schedule from Málaga Airport, introducing five new destinations: Brno in the Czech Republic, Lübeck and Münster in Germany, Teesside in England, and Warsaw in Poland. This expansion brings the total number of routes from Málaga to 91.To support this extensive network, the airline will base 18 aircraft at Málaga Airport, representing an investment of approximately 1.8 billion dollars (around 1.745 billion euros). This move is expected to support over 4,500 local jobs, fostering economic growth in the region.
In celebration of the expanded schedule, Ryanair is offering promotional fares starting at €21.99 for travel until the end of June. Bookings must be made by February 13 exclusively through the airline’s website.
However, Ryanair has expressed concerns over Aena, the state-owned company responsible for managing Spain’s airports. The airline has criticised what it calls “excessive charges” and described Aena’s incentive plans as “completely ineffective” in supporting the government’s strategy to boost underutilised regional airports, which currently operate at 64% under capacity.
Additionally, the airline has taken issue with Consumer Affairs Minister Pablo Bustinduy, alleging that his actions are “violating EU legislation with illegal fines on hand luggage”, a move Ryanair warns will “only increase airfares for Spanish consumers, further harming Spain’s tourism”.
This expansion underscores Ryanair’s commitment to enhancing connectivity from Málaga, offering passengers a broader range of travel options across Europe.
