Record high temps of 35 degrees in Murcia this October
For the first time in October the thermometers read 35 degrees
This past Wednesday, October 2, the thermometer exceeded 35ºC in Murcia for the first time in a month of October, according to data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). This is the first time that temperatures rose so high since records began back in 1984. This historic new high left the residents feeling as if the heat would never end this year.
The previous record high for October was 34.9ºC, which was reached back in October 2012. The 35.5ºC this past Wednesday shows a sizeable increase in the temperatures in Murcia this year.
Forecasters had already warned of this coming heatwave, as 12 regions were placed on alert yesterday because of the heat, alongside the wind and rains. While Murcia was not on alert, the Aemet forecast for this weekend is for temperatures that continue to be in the mid-30s.
So, while we cannot necessarily expect more records to be broken just yet, even a small margin of error could leave another even hotter day in the middle of autumn.
