Playa del Río Seco, Pilar de la Horadada
A short walk from Mil Palmeras without the crowds!
This easily accessible beach offers clear waters for the discerning bather, and also the chance to swim next to the remains of the Roman quarry which dates back to the first and second centuries BC.
The best places to park are the car parks provided next to the Río Seco valley, which lies just south of the Mil Palmeras residential area: from the N-332 road, follow the signpost to “Urb.Riomar” at kilometre 43.4 and head straight down to a roundabout around 100 metres from the sea. From here the car parks are easily visible.
The beach itself is about 200 metres long and is sandy as opposed to pebbly, and although there are no specific facilities for young children it runs into the Mil Palmeras area where such installations do exist in the summer months. On Playa del Río Seco there is a beach bar with toilet facilities.
The easy car parking amenities make it a popular choice for those wishing to avoid the crowds on Mil Palmeras beach – in the summer it is far from deserted, but less crowded than its neighbour - and there is also good access for those with limited mobility.
Apart from the beach bar it is also located just a short walk along the beach to the north from Mil Palmeras, with its restaurants, shops and bars, while to the south the area is mainly residential and services are harder to find.
This is a Blue Flag beach, which means that the facilities are good and the beach is deemed to be clean and well maintained, and as at all of Pilar de la Horadada’s beaches the lifeguard service is in place during the Easter holidays and between mid-June and mid-September, as well as at weekends from 15th September until 15th October.
