Orihuela Medieval Market pushed back until end of February
Orihuela City Council has delayed the iconic market so that it can be even bigger and more varied
Just days after announcing that Orihuela city’s annual Medieval Market would be held over the last weekend in January, the Councillor of Festivities has confirmed that the date of the 25th anniversary celebrations has been changed. The iconic event has now been postponed until February 28, March 1 and 2, 2025.
According to the council, this is a tactical move to ensure that the anniversary market can be bigger and better than ever before.
The Department of Festivities wants Orihuela’s 2025 Medieval Market to stand out "in size and variety" above similar events held in nearby towns. This new date, they argue, places the market on the calendar of major events and will allow more time for those involved to make it spectacular.
Luckily, a change of date clause was included in the original contracts, so the new date doesn’t entail any modification to the tendering process that is already underway or for the companies that are applying.
The popularity of the festival has been growing since it first started more than two decades ago and last year, around 12,000 people flocked to the city to enjoy the festivities as Orihuela returned to the Middle Ages.
Each year, the streets are lined with themed stalls, taverns and captivating performances, all evoking the spirit of a time gone by.
