October 24 El Amor Brujo, the flamenco classic by Manuel de Falla, in a special concert in Caravaca
A special night in Caravaca as Lidia Plaza is joined by the OSRM at the superb old church of El Salvador
Following the success of last year’s inaugural edition, Caravaca de la Cruz is once again holding its own Flamenco Festival in 2025, featuring six performances between 22nd October and 1st November at a selection of some of the most iconic venues in the city. Admission to all events is completely free of charge, and along with the superb venues this makes the festival an unusually attractive one even for those who are not necessarily flamenco experts!
This year marks the centenary of one of Spanish music’s most iconic pieces, “El Amor Brujo”, composed in a fusion of flamenco and classical styles by Manuel de Falla and first performed as a ballet after ten years of composition, alterations and modifications. The work has been performed and recorded countless times, and two film versions have been made, making it one of the most representative works in all genres of the troubled history of Spain during the 20th century.
In commemoration of the centenary, on 24th October the flamenco singer Lidia Plaza performs El Amor Brujo at 20.30 at the magnificent parish church of El Salvador in the company of musicians from the Region of Murcia Symphony Orchestra, making this an occasion not to miss!
