October 11-25 Fiestas in Los Alcázares
Full month of activities in Ocotber to celebrate 41 years of municipal autonomy in Los Alcázares
Los Alcázares is preparing to commemorate the 41st anniversary of its autonomy as a municipality with a complete programme of events, activities and meetings that will take place from October 11 to 25.
Residents, visitors and tourists alike will celebrate the culture, history, tradition and gastronomy of Los Alcázares during this time.
The municipality separated from San Javier and Torre Pacheco 41 years ago to achieve its autonomy.
The 'Chupinazo', which will kick off the festivities on Friday 11 in the Plaza Manuel Floreal Menárguez, which is located next to the Los Alcázares Town Hall.
There, a draw will be held among the groups registered for the cauldron festival to find out which of them will be in charge of inaugurating these festivities.
“After the chupinazo we will be able to enjoy the concert by King África, who is coming to Los Alcázares ready to get us all dancing to legendary songs such as 'Bomba' which will surely be enjoyed by the public of all ages,” states José Carlos Castejón, Councillor for Celebrations.
October 12 is one of the most eagerly awaited days for the people of Los Alcázares, the traditional and beloved Día del Caldero, when 250 local clubs and groups strive to make the best traditional stew, the local delicacy, on the beaches of Los Alcázares.
On Sunday 13 October, another of the major events in the festival calendar will take place with the official and institutional event for the day of Municipal Autonomy of Los Alcázares, where the Alkazar award will be presented, which is given each year to institutions, groups or companies that generate a clear benefit for the municipality.
The celebrations will also coincide with the Mar Menor traditional surfers' meeting 'Surfari', which will be held from 4 to 6 October and this year celebrates its 25th anniversary.
The elderly also play a very important role in these festivities and they will have a day specially dedicated to them: Monday 14. They will be able to enjoy the tasting of foods and a variety show in tribute to Spanish film actress Lina Morgan.
For the children there will be an inflatable theme park by Drilo with children's activities at the Festival Grounds, located on Avenida Joaquín Blume, during the afternoon of Sunday 20.
Along with all these activities, the activities will close the month with the great gastronomic event in Los Alcázares, Gastromar. “This is the third edition of our gastronomic events, which this year are packed with new things so that residents, visitors and tourists can enjoy the delicious gastronomy that we have in Los Alcázares and that our bars and restaurants offer, which will participate in this celebration from October 18 to 20,” explains María José Díaz Aragón, Councillor for Tourism.
