November 9 Jumilla hosts first ever National Esparto Grass Meeting
Guided tours, roundtables and conferences, all to be found at the first Esparto meeting.
A new feature has arrived at the department of crafts that is not to be missed. The first National Esparto Meeting will be held in Jumilla on November 9. The Councillor for Crafts, Paqui Simón, explained: “Esparto is very important in the history of Jumilla and it was necessary to hold an event around this tradition.”
The meeting is entitled “Esparto: Heritage, Culture and Wealth” and will be held alongside a number of other activities, such as the guided tours and conferences, which will highlight the importance of esparto in the municipality.
On November 9 the day will begin with a guided visit to the Jerónimo Molina Ethnographic and Natural Sciences Museum. Following that visitors will go to the Jinetes cisterns and Barranco Escalera.
Then it will be time for lunch and a chance to enjoy the taste of typical Jumilla cuisine before the round table, conference and exhibitions begin.
The activities planned for that afternoon will take place at the Jumilla Wine Museum and will begin at 4:00 p.m. This will be followed by the conference “The esparto heritage” by the Frenchman Pascal Thierry and finally it will be the turn of the round table “Esparto: heritage, culture and wealth”.
Finally, to end the day, the inauguration of the Esparto Creativo exhibition will take place and a DOP Jumilla wine will be offered in the gardens of the Wine Museum.
Registration for this Esparto gathering is open until 31 October, and can already be made at the Jumilla Wine Museum via email at museodelvino@jumilla.org or by calling 663 202 822.
