Murcia weather warning upgraded to red alert
The Region will be on maximum alert level tomorrow for extreme temperatures

The scorching heatwave conditions across southern Europe, America and Asia continue unabated, and for the Region of Murcia that means more red weather alerts issued by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) for this Wednesday July 19.
The red level warning has been activated in the Vega del Segura area in central Murcia, including the municipalities of Totana, Molina de Segura, Murcia city and Cieza. In these areas the temperature is forecast to reach as high as 44ºC between 1pm and 9pm.
There will also be a red alert at the same time in the neighbouring province of Alicante.
Meanwhile, there is an orange level alert in the Guadalentín Valley, Lorca and Águilas, where it will reach 42ºC on Wednesday afternoon, and in localised instances it may even reach up to 44ºC.
In the Altiplano and the Northwest, temperatures of up to 41ºC are expected and in the Campo de Cartagena and Mazarrón, temperatures of up to 39ºC.
Health authorities report that the Preventive Action Plan against the Effects of Excess Temperatures on Health is at level 3, high risk, and they are advising that protective measures be taken, especially for the most vulnerable people in society such as the elderly, the infirm, the homeless and young children.
The advice is to drink lots of water, even if you are not thirsty, and avoid caffeinated, alcoholic or highly sugary drinks, which can lead to dehydration.
Do not exercise in the sun at the hottest times of day and try to stay as long as possible in cool, shady places. Likewise, you should try to wear light, loose clothing that breathes, and eat light meals.
Experts have been warning for some time now that extreme heatwaves will be the new normal in the coming years during the summer as a consequence of climate change.
