Mazarron police analyse crime statistics to plan police patrols and security
Coordination between the Town Council and the Government Delegation to guarantee the safety of the upcoming festivities
In this regard, a meeting of the Local Safety Board was held this Wednesday October 18 which was chaired by the Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo and the National Government Delegate for the Region of Murcia, Francisco Jiménez. The meeting addressed, among other matters, the coordination and organisation of policing and security for the Bolnuevo Pilgrimage, the Festivities Patron Saints and Christmas Holidays in the municipality. This important meeting was also attended by the Local Police Councillor, Gaspar Miras; the Councillor for Civil Protection and Emergencies, Carmen Navarro; and the Councillor for Fiestas, Miguel Ángel Peña.
The Local Security Board convenes regularly every fifteen days and brings together the senior officers of the Civil Guard, Local Police, Civil Protection and Emergencies with the municipal authorities to analyse reported crimes and the adaption of security measures in the municipality. The Government Delegate also joins the board twice a year, coinciding with the prelude to the summer period and the development of the popular celebrations in the last quarter of the year.
In statements to the press, Mayor Ginés Campillo thanked "the favourable predisposition" of the Government Delegate towards Mazarrón and "for the interest he takes in matters that concern the municipality, especially in security issues." However, the Mayor stressed that "he will continue to demand more resources for the municipality."
For his part, the Government delegate, Francisco Jiménez, has highlighted the importance of analysing crime statistics and guaranteeing adequate security coverage "so that the citizens of Mazarrón enjoy safe and peaceful festivities." Jiménez praised "the work of the Mazarrón Local Police and the Civil Guard, highlighting a notable reduction in crimes such as robberies, sexual crimes and crime in general, compared to the previous year." However, it has noted an increase in cybercrime, such as online and mobile scams.
To ensure safety during the upcoming festive events, traffic controls will be carried out at the entrances and exits to the events and to major urban centres, as well as checks to detect the consumption of alcohol, drugs and weapons, with the aim of preventing riots and altercations. Additionally, plainclothes officers and patrols will be deployed to monitor areas that may be left empty while citizens enjoy the festivities.
To assist the Local Security Board in planning and distributing police resources, it is of vital importance to report crimes to the Guardia Civil so that a proportional security strategy can be formulated to provide adequate patrols in areas where crimes are perpetrated.
