Mazarrón beaches: Playa del Palomarico
A rocky, low occupancy cove in the far south-west of Mazarrón
Playa del Palomarico is the one of the beaches at the south-western end of the 35 kilometres of the Mazarrón coastline, and is located next to the agricultural area of Cañadas de Gallego. It is accessed either by the coast road from the village or via the RM-D21 and the AP-7 motorway.
It is close to the village of Puntas de Calnegre in Lorca, a little corner of the Murcia coastline which is much loved by many, although for years a battle has been forced to save it from demolition as it contravenes the controversial Ley de Costas. Technically, the front line of houses and restaurants on the beach could be demolished and a new, soul-less concrete front line be built a few metres back, gaining nothing other than a few more metres of shingly coastline, to the benefit of none and the loss of all.
This little rocky cove is tucked away in a corner behind a residential property: access is not easy, and for this reason the beach has very low occupancy. At first glance nobody would even know it was there! It is 90 metres long and 20 metres wide, and is mixed sand and shingle. Bathing conditions are good as the bottom of the cove is sandy and the beach is protected from side breezes.
There is no designated parking and no services.
