Málaga airport breaks records in 2024 with almost 25 million passengers
Brits made up over 5 million of the overall number that travelled through the airport
Málaga Airport closed out 2024 with its best year to date with record numbers of tourists passing through its terminals. These figures were made public by Aena, who own the airport, and show that Málaga’s airport received 24,923,774 million passengers in 2024. This number represents an increase of 11.5% from the previous year.
The number of operations in the airport were also up from the previous year by 8.2%. The total number of flights was recorded at 174, 915. These figures represent a daily average of 68,284 passengers and 479 flights from the airport in the south of Spain.
The majority of the travellers that passed through the airport were on commercial flights. Of the 24,871,545 travellers on these flights only 4,234,592 were from other Spanish cities and more than 20 million were from outside of Spain.
The countries that had the most amount of people travelling to Málaga were from the UK with 5,691,371 passengers. Second was Germany with 1,967,294 and the Dutch were third with 1,479,693. From France there were 1,360,672 travellers and from Italy 1,289,204.
Moreover, the airport saw a large rise in passengers from two countries in particular. From the Czech Republic there was an increase of 82.4% from the previous year, and from Poland there was an increase of 56.4%.
2024 also saw the airport record the highest volume of baggage handled (outbound) in its more than 105 years, reaching almost 6 million checked bags at the facilities.
This progressive monthly evolution of traffic during 2024 was also repeated in December, when Malaga airport reached 1,573,958 passengers, 7.4% more than the same month in 2023.
In terms of landings and take-offs the airport managed 11,922 operations in December, 5.4% more compared to the same dates in 2023.
