June 23 Official San Juan bonfires in Águilas
Two bonfires in the town as Águilas celebrates the night of San Juan
Every 23rd June, around the time that the summer solstice marks the longest days of the year, Spain lights up for one of its most mystical and meaningful festivals: La Noche de San Juan (Saint John’s Eve). With fire, sea, music and symbolism, the night brings together pagan and Christian traditions with the spiritual and the festive. Celebrated in more than 300 towns across the country, this age-old Spanish tradition continues to unite generations under the stars.
Águilas, of course, is no exception, and in 2026 the Town Hall has authorized two official bonfires (complete with safety precautions), removing the need for people to create their own fire risks as they celebrate.
The festivities begin early, with various activities beginning at 19.00: in the Urbanización Los Jardines bouncy castles are to be opened for children, while in Urbanización del Titanic (Calle Murcia) music is provided by DJ Juanmi and Liberto Rabal – food and drinks are also served.
The bonfires are to be lit at 22.30 in Residencial Los Jardines (Calle Odontólogo Vicente Bayona) and at Urbanización del Titanic in Calle Murcia.

Águilas boasts 28 kilometres of coastline, with many fine, sandy beaches, sheltered coves and unspoilt natural beaches. It is a great summer favourite with Spanish holidaymakers, so always has a superb programme of concerts and activities throughout the summer, as well as the biggest carnival in the Region of Murcia, 40 days before Semana Santa (Easter.)
Throughout the year it also has a number of museums and historical attractions, a castle with fabulous views overlooking the bay and several other points of interest, all of which make it an good place to visit for days out. Throughout the year the tourist office runs monthly guided tours and the route of the railways, which explores the railway history of the town.
The tourist information office is located in the Plaza de Antonio Cortijos, just a short walk from the sea front and Plaza de España, a cool, shaded space in which to enjoy a coffee.
