In photos: Thousands of Brits descend on Benidorm for the biggest fancy dress party in Europe
More than 30,000 people hit the streets on Thursday November 14 after Benidorm’s patron saint festival
Benidorm is always a pretty colourful spot but locals and visitors took things to a whole new level on Thursday November 14, with the return of the annual costume party, the largest street fancy dress gathering in all of Europe.
The world-famous party is always held the day after the Festes Majors Patronals, Benidorm’s patron saint festival, ends and the event has been going strong for more than three decades.
Each year it gets bigger and bigger, and it’s estimated that this week, more than 30,000 Britons, together with a good smattering of Spanish and other nationalities, took to the streets of Benidorm’s new town in their most outrageous and elaborate costumes.
Of course, this year’s party had a bit of a sombre undertone because of the October DANA disaster, but rather than let it dampen spirits too much, visitors rallied round and supported those affected by the flooding.
All participating bars and restaurants have installed donation boxes where interested parties can give whatever they can afford until Friday November 15.
