ARCHIVED - French prisoner who escaped from prison during hospital visit captured in Torremolinos
The man was finally caught in Andalusia after his partner reported him to police for abusing her
Spanish Police on the Costa del Sol have arrested a dangerous fugitive in Torremolinos who was wanted by the authorities in France after he fled from prison there when he transferred to hospital.
The man had a European Arrest Warrant issued against him for the crimes of drug trafficking, armed robbery and a violent attack on a police officer, among others.
Known by his initials A.M., the 28-year-old Frenchman was imprisoned in Liancourt prison when he reportedly injured himself in order to be transferred to the hospital, from where he managed to escape after assaulting a nurse and violently attacking the police officers who were guarding him.
He then fled to Spain and hid in Torremolinos under a false identity.
He was identified by the Spanish police following a recent complaint filed at the Torremolinos-Benalmádena police station by a woman, his partner, who had reported him for mistreatment.
