Free buses and parking in Murcia for Easter and Spring Festival
Ayuntamiento rolls out park‑and‑ride, shuttles and free public transport to ease traffic on the busiest fiesta days
The city of Murcia is preparing for Holy Week and the Spring Festival with a special mobility plan that makes it easier for residents and visitors to get around without relying on the car. The Ayuntamiento, through the Department of Mobility, Economic Management and Contracting led by José Francisco Muñoz, has set out a package of measures to cope with the large crowds expected over the coming weeks.Muñoz explained that the city will host three festivals declared of International Tourist Interest within just two weeks, bringing hundreds of thousands of visitors who come to Murcia to experience its history, culture, faith and traditions. He said the plan brings together a wide range of coordinated measures so the city can handle the extra journeys and “offers real alternatives to private vehicles, making it easier for residents of Murcia and visitors to enjoy our festivities with greater comfort and in more pleasant environments.”
On the two busiest festival days, the Bando de la Huerta and the Burial of the Sardine, public transport will be free. On April 7 and April 11, anyone travelling into the city will be able to use buses and the tram without charge, helping to cut private car use and keep the main parade areas less congested.
Park‑and‑ride car parks will also be free from Holy Wednesday, Wednesday March 25, until Sunday April 12, the day after the Burial of the Sardine. The network has been expanded this year with the addition of the Hacienda car park, which adds 404 spaces and for the first time offers a large‑capacity site with a quick tram link to the city centre for those arriving via Juan Carlos I.
The Loaysa, Atocha, Fuenteblanca, Justicia and Hacienda sites will all be free and are positioned at key entry points, with clear public transport connections into the centre. The Ayuntamiento will publish a simple infographic to help visitors and residents quickly see which facility best suits their route and how it links with buses or tram.
The plan also keeps in place municipally managed car parks such as Abenarabi and Verónicas, which add affordable, orderly parking in the urban area. Special shuttle services will run between the main entry routes and the busiest areas, especially around the Malecón, reducing pressure on the centre while still making it easy to reach the heart of the festivities. Road closures and diversions will be properly signposted and announced in advance to limit disruption to daily life.
