Foreign pickpocket gang arrested at Alicante Airport after targeting travellers
National Police say the suspects were part of an itinerant group travelling to Spain to commit thefts
Three foreign men have been arrested after allegedly stealing a traveller's wallet at Alicante-Elche Airport. The suspects, aged 25, 41 and 75, are accused of belonging to an itinerant criminal group which travelled between countries to carry out thefts, according to the National Police.
The investigation began after a traveller reported that their wallet had been stolen at the airport. The wallet contained personal documents, bank cards and cash in several currencies, police explained.
Officers began investigating and used police databases and other enquiries to identify the people allegedly responsible. They established that three men were involved and that they had left Alicante Airport in a vehicle shortly after the theft.
Further checks revealed that the same three suspects had allegedly been arrested the following day in connection with another shoplifting incident.
Police say the men belonged to a group from another country which travelled to Spain specifically to commit thefts before leaving the country again with the stolen property.
According to police, they wore clothing and used other items to partially cover their faces, making it harder for officers and witnesses to identify them.
The three men have now been arrested in connection with the alleged theft at Alicante-Elche Airport.
