El Valle Golf Resort charity fundraising events
The famed golf resort in Murcia is known for its charitable donations, and now there’s a new way to get involved and support good causes
As part of its new push to be the best golf resort in Spain, El Valle Golf Resort runs several community events to raise money for local and international charities. Aside from always being on the lookout for new initiatives to help raise money for charity, El Valle Golf Resort owners, residents and visitors have achieved significant fundraising over the years since it first opened.
Each year, the Resort has run a Charity Day in August, which over recent years has expanded into a Charity Week. Almost all of the events and activities arranged over the week contribute in some way to the Charity Fund. Thanks must go to Neil Cockings who started these amazing achievements all those years ago.
Not only is this a great way to support charities, but both adults and children love the events organised by El Valle, including walks, runs, cycling, quizzes, go-karting, a gala night and many other activities. All participants in the numerous activities make small voluntary contributions, all of which assist the El Valle fundraising efforts.
The largest contributors over recent years have been the Annual Charity auction and the Madrid to Murcia cycle ride, which was undertaken by only a handful of homeowners from El Valle yet managed to secure donations of around £20,000 to blood cancer charity Myeloma UK.
In 2020 the Charity Week had to be completely cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions. Last August was the 10th Annual Charity Event and, although it was a muted celebration due to the lingering effects of Covid, El Valle still managed to raise some charitable funds. The charity committee decided that this year they were not going to actively push for donations but to use the events to bring the community together safely after what have been a difficult two years for everyone.
Charities that have benefitted from El Valle’s generosity include:
- Footsteps foundations (children’s support)
- Weir Archer Academy (supporting para-athletes)
- White Lodge (supporting disabled)
- Guide dogs for the blind
- Caritas
- Arrixaca Childrens Cancer Ward
- Debra (butterfly skin children)
- Fibrosis Quística
- Traperos de Emaús
- Aidemar (supporting children and families with disabilities)
- Lorca Earthquake Fund
- Cauldwell Children
- Los Alcázares Flood Victims
- Kidney Cancer UK
- San Pedro food bank
- and many more…
Anyone interested in donations to the auction or indeed any of the other activities organised for these great causes can get in touch directly with any El Valle property owner who will point you in the right direction.
El Valle Resort charitable groups
El Valle have an ever increasing Social and Events section led by Anthony Cockings and Marina Martínez; a fast-growing Parents Group led by Emma Brady; and the Golf Society run by Paul Taylor. All of these sections contribute to raise money for charity.
El Valle’s connection to the Weir Archer Academy is strong. David Weir (CBE), is one of the UK’s greatest ever Paralympians and he has stayed at El Valle on many occasions for warm weather training. Accompanying David have been a number of budding wheelchair racing Paralympian hopefuls under the watchful eye of Jenny Archer (MBE), coach and mentor.
El Valle owners Joe and Tania Gallagher dedicate much of their time and resources into supporting the Weir Archer Academy and the whole of El Valle is hugely proud of their efforts. Joe and Tania’s daughter, Olivia, has gone on to represent Team GB and is also hoping to make the next Paralympics. Come on Olivia!
Given what El Valle has achieved over the years in terms of Charity fund raising, it will be difficult to continue to try and exceed the previous years’ efforts. However, El Valle intend to keep on running such events, to keep the amazing efforts going and will continue to help charities when and wherever they can.
You can stay in touch with all of El Valle’s activities by downloading the Selected Resorts El Valle App, which provides information for local residents and visitors to the resort, serving as a community hub on your phone and allowing you to take part in El Valle’s charity events. It is available on both Apple and Android phones through the App Store.
El Valle are very grateful for all the help and support given by Selected Resorts in the development of this app, which is proving popular with El Valle owners, residents and visitors alike.
