Corvera Airport keeps climbing, with passenger numbers up 7.2% this year
More than 820,000 travellers have passed through the Murcia terminal so far in 2026, with September flights also on the rise
Murcia’s international airport is having a genuinely strong year. Corvera Airport (AIRM) welcomed 822,036 passengers between January and September, a 7.2% increase on the same period last year, according to figures released by the airport on Monday October 13.
Of the 818,199 passengers who travelled on commercial flights, 727,310 were on international routes, up 6.6% on the first nine months of 2025. Domestic travel grew even faster, climbing 8.5% to reach 90,889 passengers over the same period.
It’s a continuation of a trend that’s been building all year. Back in early October, the airport had already passed the six million mark for total passengers since opening in January 2019, with new routes to Amsterdam and Liverpool confirmed to launch next spring.
Flight activity has grown even faster than passenger numbers. Between January and September, Corvera handled 6,815 take offs and landings, a jump of 15.3% compared to the same period in 2025. Of the 5,784 commercial operations, 4,802 were international flights and 982 were domestic.
September itself kept the momentum going, if a little more modestly. The airport recorded 112,717 passengers for the month, up just 0.2% on September last year, while flight numbers told a different story entirely, with 947 operations representing a 15.5% rise.
That growth fits neatly with what’s been happening across the wider Region too. Almost 950,000 international tourists visited Murcia between January and August, up 14.2% on the previous year, spending €1.25 billion while they were here, with Britain remaining the Region’s single biggest international market (Corvera airport hits six million passengers as more new routes are announced).
Juan Francisco Martínez, director general of the Region of Murcia’s Tourism Institute, previously described passing the six million passenger milestone as “a very significant figure”, pointing to how closely the airport’s growth tracks the wider rise in tourism across Murcia.
Corvera’s performance also stands out against the national picture. Across the whole Aena network in Spain, September passenger numbers rose 4.2% year on year, and the cumulative total for January to September reached 257.2 million passengers nationally, up 4.1%. Corvera’s own 7.2% growth over the same nine months puts it comfortably ahead of that national average, a strong sign for how the Region’s main airport is positioned heading into the rest of the year.
