Camposol rambla studies focus of working meeting
Mayor of Mazarron has working meeting with water authority president with the focus on the Camposol rambla issue and Bahía urbanisation problems
Following on from a meeting on October 3, the Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, and the Councillor for Urban Planning and Infrastructure, Gaspar Miras, have held a working meeting with the president of the Segura Hydrographic Confederation (CHS), Mario Urrea, and the Commissioner of Waters, Francisco Javier García at the CHS headquarters in Murcia. The CHS is the water authority responsible for the Segura river basin which covers all of the region of Murcia plus parts of the provinces of Alicante, Almeria, Granada, Albacete and Jaén.
The Segura Hydrographic Confederation has received the required flooding studies and has also held previous meetings with municipal technicians and developers. In these meetings, they have been informed of the conditions that the aforementioned actions must meet. After receiving the documentation from Mazarrón Council, the CHS will analyse the documentation verifying, if necessary, the viability of the project that the Council wants to carry out.
The Rambla de los Aznares, the dry riverbed that runs through Sector D of the Camposol urbanisation has long been problematic, administratively as well as physically, particularly in 2014 when after a severe rain event know as a gota fria the rambla flooded, causing extensive damage to property in its path. A number of solutions concerning the re-routing of the rambla have been proposed over the years and a round table consisting of the CHS, Mazarrón Council and the regional government of Murcia was set up to agree on a solution.
At the last round table meeting the regional government put forward an option 4 which, unlike previous alternatives, travels outside the urbanisation's infrastructure. It was decided by the 3 authorities at the meeting that option 4 was the favoured solution and the CHS asked for further technical studies to be carried out.
The CHS been involved in these projects, the channelling of the Rambla de los Aznares Camposol, as well as the Bahía solutions, for some time and have to ensure that the modifications that are necessary to produce a solution comply with current legislation. With the solutions now proposed by the municipal technicians, it must be verified, among other issues, that there is no worsening of the flooding of this or other already consolidated urban areas.
