Camposol rambla: Option 4 progresses after meeting with water authority
The President of the CHS holds a meeting with the Mayor of Mazarrón and Councillor for Urbanismo (town planning)
On October 3 the Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, accompanied by Councillor for Urbanismo Gaspar Miras, held a working meeting with the President of the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura (CHS), Mario Urrea, and the Water Commissioner, Francisco Javier García. The CHS is the water authority responsible for the Segura river basin which covers all of the region of Murcia plus part of the province of Alicante and part of the region of Almeria.
At the meeting held at the CHS Head Office in Murcia, the processing status of various urban development files in the Mazarrón municipality requiring reports from the CHS were discussed.
The reason for the aforementioned studies is to verify that the requirements established in water laws are met and in particular that there is no worsening of flood risk in these or other already consolidated urban areas.
The Rambla de los Aznares, a dry riverbed that runs through Sector D of the Camposol urbanisation has long been problematic, administratively as well as physically, particularly in 2014 when after a severe rain event know as a gota fria the rambla flooded causing extensive damage to property in its path. A number of solutions concerning the re-routing of the rambla have been proposed over the years and a round table consisting of the CHS, Mazarrón Council and the regional government of Murcia was set up to agree on a solution.
At the last round table meeting the regional government put forward an option 4 which, unlike previous alternatives, travels outside the urbanisation's infrastructure. It was decided by the 3 authorities at the meeting that option 4 was the favoured solution and the CHS asked for further technical studies to be carried out.
After the latest meeting on October 3 it has been confirmed by the Mayor that the CHS and Mazarrón Council have agreed to move forward on the Option 4 project. Presumably the next step will be for the 3 authorities to agree the procedure, although the personnel in the relevant departments in the regional government were only established in late September after the elections earlier in the year so a period of settling in may be required.
