Camposol, Condado and Mazarrón Country Club shaken by earthquake
Earthquake with epicentre near Totana rocks residents and registers 3.0 on Richter scale
Residents of the Camposol, Condado and Mazarrón Coutry Club urbanisations were surprised by what sounded like a huge explosion followed by earth tremors early yesterday evening.
The earthquake, measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale, was felt on Thursday evening, October 24, just south of the municipality of Totana. The epicentre of the earthquake occurred at a depth of two kilometres, according to the Spain’s National Geographic Institute, at 7.13pm.
It has not been reported if there have been any serious personal or material damages.
The event sparked a flurry of activity on social media as shocked residents tried to confirm what they had witnessed, with some longtime residents recalling the Lorca earthquake which occurred in 2011 and caused extensive damage to the city and was felt over a large area.
However, the earthquake this Thursday was nowhere near as big, and the reality is that earthquakes of between 2.0 and 3.0 on the Richter scale are frequent in this part of Spain, rarely causing any harm and in many instances going unnoticed.
