Camposol Business Association act to further improve Sector B commercial centre
Members of the Camposol Business Association (CBA) install floral displays to improve the appearance of the shopping area
Members of the Camposol Business Association agreed at their meeting in June to invest in floral displays to improve the appearance of the commercial centre, which it was felt had an unappealing utilitarian concete block aspect. It was decided that artificial hanging displays would be the most practical taking into consideration the positioning and with respect to maintenance and exposure to the elements.
The displays are now being installed and further projects and ideas are being planned. This follows the association’s action in removing the much maligned and dilapidated mailboxes in the carpark, which had been an eyesore for many years, having been used for many years as rubbish receptacles and improptu late-night toilets but never for their intended purpose. The removal of the post boxes was not straightforward and approval had to be obtained from the owners, Grupo MASA and the Correos (with the help of Councillor for Camposol, Silvana Buxton) before work could start.
Another improvement made by the association earlier this year was the installation of solar lighting on members' premises. Although the pedestrian areas and pavements should be illuminated by the commercial centre landlords this has not happened for some considerable time, despite repeated requests, so the CBA members took the decision at a meeting to take action using association funds.
Among other items the CBA has also succeeded in getting the council to replace all the broken plastic sewer inspection covers in the pavement to the north of the commercial centre with cast iron covers, eliminating the risk of members of the public stepping into them.
The CBA is looking at other plans and projects aimed at improving the appearence and facilities of the commercial centre area.
