Calas de Rocamar, Pilar de la Horadada
Coves rather than beaches, picnics rather than restaurants!
These small coves are especially popular with those seeking solitude, being far more sparsely populated even in peak season than the neighbouring parts of the shoreline.
The area is located to the south of Mil Palmeras and the Playa de Río Seco, just over half a kilometre north of the watchtower of La Torre de la Horadada. The easiest way to reach it by car is to follow the shore north from the watchtower and turn right on Calle Tabarca. Alternatively, from the N-332 road, follow the signpost to “Urb.Riomar” at kilometre 43.4 and head straight down to a roundabout around 100 metres from the sea. Turn right at the roundabout and then left, and there are normally parking spaces in an area where the roads are 
new but new buildings have not yet been completed.
This is one of the less visited beaches in Pilar de la Horadada and is mainly used by residents in the area just behind it. There are no special facilities for small children, and while there are small shops and restaurants in the streets leading to the beach this is not really an area full of shopping and dining opportunities for day trippers.
It’s slightly more difficult to find this area than some as it’s not on the main road, and while the stroll down to the shore is pleasant, in the heat of July and August the distance back up to where you left the car can feel quite a lot longer!
However those making the effort will be rewarded with 269 metres of golden sand and calm water, as well as the more interesting rock areas on the edge of the Roman Quarry, and as at all of Pilar’s beaches there is a manned lifeguard point during Easter Week and from mid-June and mid-September. This service is also operational at weekends from 15th September to 15th October.
