ARCHIVED - Building work completed on Camposol community project
Camposol D Sector Community and 2025 Groups complete their first joint project as residents join in the good work
After weeks of planning, setting out and shoring up, the final part of the works phase was completed on Wednesday 27 July on a project aimed at creating an extended hard surface area for household waste bins, cardboard, plastics and tins recycling containers and glass recycling pods in Sector D of Camposol. This will make it safer to use as all the bins are now stored off-road and the final piece of the jigsaw saw the pouring of concrete to create the bay and plinth on which the bins and containers will sit.
The team of volunteers made up of the sector D garden team and residents, Brian, Phil, Les and Stuart ensured that the project was completed before the Sector D Community Street Party on the Friday night, with the Council assisting with the clean-up of the waste dumped by irresponsible contractors and residents.
Not forgetting the help of the Friday morning footballers who relocated the large recycling containers!
When the volunteers were asked "why they were helping" their answer was that it was a community-led project and that they saw this was actually making a tangible improvement to the local environment and not just talk as they felt some other groups do. The volunteers were also asked when the next project was being delivered.
The answer to the last question is that planning is starting on two more bin improvement projects in the new year, with two more following in late 2023 and/or early 2024.
The final phase of the current project is for the Council to site the largest recycling pods in their final location, the hope being that it will be done in the next week to ten days (holiday season permitting!). After that attention will focus on the next enterprise.
