British tourist robbed and sexually assaulted by trio of thieves in Spain
The holidaymaker was targeted by two men and a woman in the centre of Madrid
A 39-year-old British woman's night out in Madrid turned into a nightmare when she was robbed and sexually assaulted by a group of thieves who had initially posed as Good Samaritans.
According to eyewitnesses, the victim had been enjoying a night out at a popular club in a central Madrid square on Thursday September 5 when she became disoriented after drinking a lot of alcohol. That's when a Spanish woman and two men approached her, offering to help. But their intentions were far from genuine.
The trio led the unsuspecting tourist to a nearby bench, where they stole her valuables, including cash, jewellery and her mobile phone. One of the men and the woman quickly fled the scene, but the second man stayed behind, taking advantage of the situation to sexually assault the victim.
The attack was only interrupted when a passerby spotted the perpetrator shortly after 3am and he quickly ran off. The victim was rushed to hospital for medical attention, where she received treatment after her ordeal.
The investigation into the attack is being led by the National Police's specialist women's assistance unit, UFAM. The authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and are understood to have interviewed the victim a short time after the assault.
This shocking incident comes just weeks after a similar attack on a 30-year-old British holidaymaker in Palma de Mallorca. In that case, the victim reported being gang-raped by two men on a beach after initially agreeing to go there with one of her attackers. The pair stole all of her belongings before fleeing the scene.
