Benidorm installs free cold water fountains to combat heat
The chilled water will be available on some of the busiest streets in the Costa Blanca hotspot

The weather might still be unpredictable up and down the Costa Blanca but before we know it, the summer heat will hit and temperatures will creep up into the 30s. With this in mind, Benidorm City Council is one step ahead, installing fountains that will provide gloriously cool water on the hottest days, absolutely free.
This initiative is part of a pilot project being carried out in conjunction with Hidraqua and aims to “facilitate the availability of tap water to residents and tourists in highly frequented public spaces,” according to Benidorm mayor Toni Pérez.
The first refrigerated drinking water fountain has just been installed on Avenida Armada Española at its junction with Avenida Racharell, and two more will be set up this week in Séquia Mare Park and in Plaza del Torrejó, next to the Tourist Office. The three chilled water fountains connected to the municipal drinking water supply network.
The fountains are made of weather and vandal-resistant material and are designed to be accessible to people with reduced mobility.
Furthermore, the mayor stressed that the hygienic and sanitary quality of the fountains “is absolutely guaranteed” given that it is “drinking water from the Benidorm supply network, which meets the strictest quality controls.”
