Beach weather this weekend: Spain forecast Oct 3-6
Large parts of southern Spain will see the temperatures soar to 35°C
Average temperatures expected this Sunday
It might be October, but many parts of southern Spain will experience beach weather this weekend, with temperatures set to soar on Saturday and Sunday. The Atlantic front that brought showers and some intense storms earlier in the week will start to clear over the next couple of days, making way for a dry and sunny weekend.
Thursday October 3
As the Atlantic front departs, the Catalan coast and Balearic Islands may experience a few lingering showers in the early morning hours. The clouds should soon clear though, leaving behind plenty of sunny spells. However, strong winds will still be present in these areas, causing rough seas and waves of up to three metres.
Temperatures will drop in the east and rise in the northwest, with the Guadalquivir valley and Andalucían Mediterranean coast still basking in temperatures above 30°C.
Friday October 4
The last of the storm clouds should have departed southern Spain by Friday, and clear skies and mild temperatures are forecast in most of the country. The only exceptions will be parts of the Catalan coast and Balearic Islands, which may experience some instability and late-night rain.
Daytime temperatures will take another dip along the Mediterranean coast but the mercury is expected to start climbing in the Canary Islands.
Saturday October 5
According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), Saturday will be settled and dry in most of Spain and the Balearic Islands.
However, an Atlantic front will approach the extreme northwest and leave cloudy or overcast skies, with probable rain in Galicia and the western Cantabrian area.
Temperatures will rise quite noticeably, reaching the mid to high-20s in large parts of the south.
Sunday October 6
Time to dust off the beach towels on Sunday, as temperatures are expected to soar in southern Spain, with the mercury tipped to hit 34°C in Andalucía, the Valencian Community and the Region of Murcia.
While there will be plenty of sunny spells, a new Atlantic front is forecast to arrive gradually throughout the day, moving from the northwest to the southeast. This will result in increasing cloudiness later in the evening and more rain in Galicia and Asturias.
A chilly September
According to meteorologists, September 2024 was a surprisingly cold month in much of Spain, with maximum temperatures up to 2.5°C below normal values in some areas.
A whopping 150 new temperature records were set, mostly due to the cold snap. The north and centre of the country experienced negative temperature anomalies, while the southeast, such as Malaga, enjoyed temperatures above normal.
September's rainfall was also very unevenly distributed, with some areas like Logroño recording heavy rainfall due to storms and irregular showers, while parts of Andalucía remain on drought alert.
