This week saw Córdoba touching 40°C while the coast began to feel the benefit of cooler westerly winds. The weekend follows a similar pattern, across Andalucía, keeping inland areas firmly in the grip of intense summer heat, while the northeastern mountains bring the added drama of some potentially severe storms.

 

 

Partly cloudy to clear skies across most of the region, though the Mediterranean coast sees intervals of low cloud and mist in the morning, with fog possible in places. Cloud builds in the northeastern mountains during the afternoon, where isolated thunderstorms are likely, potentially severe and accompanied by small hail. Heat warnings are in force for Almería, Córdoba, Granada, Huelva, Jaén and Seville all sitting in the high thirties, with storm warnings also covering Almería and Granada. Temperatures fall along the Mediterranean coast but rise elsewhere. Winds are light to moderate, easterly along the coast and westerly around the Strait.

 

 

Much the same picture, with clear to partly cloudy skies and another misty morning along the Mediterranean coast. Cloud develops again over the eastern interior mountains, with thunderstorms possible in the afternoon, particularly in the northeast where they could be locally severe with small hail and very strong gusts. Almería and Granada drop off the heat warning list, though Granada retains its storm warning. Temperatures broadly unchanged or slightly higher, except along the western Mediterranean coast where maximums ease a little. Winds light and variable, turning westerly along the Atlantic coast in the afternoon.

 

 

Another largely clear day with the familiar low cloud and mist along the coast through the morning. Mountain storms remain possible in the eastern ranges during the afternoon. Heat warnings continue for Córdoba, which reaches 41°C, along with Jaén and Seville. Temperatures hold steady, with maximums nudging up slightly in parts of the Mediterranean. Winds turn light and westerly along the Atlantic coast through the afternoon, making it a more pleasant day for Tarifa.

 

 

Clear to partly cloudy once more, with misty intervals along the coast and mountain storms still possible inland. Temperatures ease very slightly on the Atlantic side while staying hot elsewhere. A good day for the coast if you can manage it, with Cádiz and Málaga both considerably more comfortable than the interior.

 

 

The heat isn't going anywhere fast, and with Córdoba touching 41°C on Saturday, August is shaping up to be every bit as intense as July. The coast offers some respite, but inland it remains relentlessly hot.
