Andalucía smashes renewable energy records in 2025 with 10.3% surge
Second-highest growth in Spain sees region hit record highs, led by solar power
Andalucía has long been at the forefront of Spain's renewable energy boom and 2025 brought even more proof with record-breaking green electricity output. The region produced 22,929 GWh (gigawatt-hours) last year, up 10.3% from 2024; second only to Castilla y León nationwide. These figures come from Opina 360's Renewable Energy Observatory report, based on Red Eléctrica data. Andalucía led Spain in solar (photovoltaic) generation at 13,253 GWh, helping offset dips in wind and hydro. Nationally, renewables hit a new high, with seven regions including ours setting records.
Castilla y León topped production, but Andalucía was right there. The top six regions generated most of Spain's green energy. Standouts for green share in total power included Castilla y León at 94% and Aragón at 82.9%, while some like the Basque Country lagged far behind.
Not everywhere thrived, eight regions saw declines, but Murcia, Extremadura and others joined Andalucía in the record books.
Solar's starring role underlines Andalucía's green momentum. As we've seen before, the region's renewable push is setting a strong example. With output like this, it is good news for cleaner air and potentially steadier bills ahead.
