Aguamarina micro-reserve in Orihuela Costa gets some much-needed TLC
The work around playa de La Glea in Campoamor aims to protect one of the coast's most valuable natural spaces

Orihuela City Council has rolled up its sleeves for some maintenance work around the Aguamarina micro-reserve and playa de La Glea beach in Orihuela Costa, all aimed at looking after one of the most ecologically important stretches of the coast and keeping it in good shape for residents and visitors alike.
Working alongside the Valencian regional government, crews have been busy cleaning up the area around Campoamor, clearing back overgrown vegetation, sorting out the coastal path and its protective features, and clearing away rubbish along the way.
The idea, according to the council, is to strike a balance between protecting the reserve's natural value and making sure it's safe for people to actually enjoy.
Councillor for the Environment Noelia Grao said looking after the area's natural spaces remains a top priority for the council, pointing to just how ecologically valuable the Aguamarina micro-reserve is for the wider Orihuela Costa coastline. She added that working with the Generalitat Valenciana makes it possible to keep carrying out the kind of work needed to protect this stretch of natural heritage.
The council's Environment Department is also asking the public to do their bit to help keep the area protected, including sticking to the marked trail, taking rubbish home rather than leaving it behind and paying attention to the signage dotted around the reserve.
