ARCHIVED - Semi-naked and dehydrated toddler found wandering the streets in Molina de Segura
Police in the Region of Murcia town have since arrested the little girl's mother for child abandonment
A two-year-old girl was found semi-naked and clearly dehydrated wandering alone along a street in Molina de Segura by a concerned resident on Monday August 8.
The neighbour spotted the unaccompanied toddler, who was wearing "hardly anything" in the scorching heat, at around 4.30pm and immediately called the police.
The child was taken to a local doctor for a condition check by officers, who in addition to buying her clothes and nappies, took care of her until she was handed over to a children's home where she had previously been admitted months ago.
Meanwhile, specialised investigating officers from the Molina de Segura Judicial Police group managed to locate the child's mother's home and found the front door open and the television on.
The little girl's mum turned up four hours later and was arrested for child abandonment. At the time of her arrest, police found a small quantity of an undisclosed narcotic substance in her possession.
The detainee was handed over to the Molina de Segura Magistrate's Court on duty and released pending trial.
