The Regional Government has rejected the project, because after carrying out “a thorough analysis” it has concluded that the action “is not positive for the environment”
The Murcia Regional Government has rejected a proposal for the installation of a new restaurant within the public port area of Cabo de Palos, specifically in front of Cala Salero, on environmental grounds. The new restaurant was proposed by a private company, but has been strongly opposed by local residents since it came up for a joint public and private analysis. Now, after analysing the company’s application, as well as the documentation submitted by citizens and social entities in the area, the Government authorities have denied the request for planning permission. The Minister of Development and Infrastructures, José Ramón Díez de Revenga, explained that “a thorough analysis of the application and the documentation presented in the public information process has been carried out, and the conclusion has been reached that it is not positive to carry out an action of this type in that location”.He explained that in Cabo de Palos, any such work “must be especially careful with the environment, and provide a high added value with complete integration into the society and landscape”. Last November, local residents staged mass protests in the area against the proposed restaurant, and it seems the power of public opinion has prevailed.Más de lo que pasó ayer en Cabo de Palos.
