ARCHIVED - Murcia pumps 60,000 euros into training new bullfighters
The money will be available as a grant to help train up new bullfighting professionals
The Ministry of Presidency, Tourism and Culture of the Region of Murcia has presented a project for financial aid to help pay for training for new matadors (‘toreros’) in bullfighting arenas.
The money will be used to conduct theoretical and practical training for bullfighters and other bullfighting professionals, as well as for its promotion, with a total amount of 60,000 euros.
This subsidy to train new bullfighters is in addition to a new bullfighting school planned in Murcia city.
Bullfighting and bloodsports in Spain are actually declining in popularity, and only manage to stay afloat thanks to government subsidies, and activists in Murcia have stepped up their campaign to outlaw the practice after a man died in the ring last September.
According to the extract of the order that calls for these new 60,000 euros in grant money, which is published this Thursday March 9 in the Official Gazette of the Region of Murcia (BORM), the beneficiaries of the money will be legal entities.
The deadline for them to submit their applications to benefit from this grant money will be 30 working days, counting from this Friday March 10.
