ARCHIVED - Listeria discovered in popular sausages sold all over Spain
The health alert was launched in Spain over products imported from Italy
The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has issued an urgent recall of several batches of sausage products after they were found to be contaminated with listeria. The popular food items came from Italy and are for sale in supermarkets and grocery stores all across Spain.
The health alert was issued following an outbreak of listeriosis in Italy and although there are no reported cases in Spain, the authorities have removed the affected batches from market as a precaution.
The contaminated sausages have by now been removed from the shelves and anyone who has already purchased the items should refrain from eating them. Consumers should also look out for symptoms associated with listeriosis and are advised to seek medical attention if they have consumed the product and suffer from fever, headache, vomiting or diarrhoea.
